My one year old gags himself repeatedly. Is this just a weird thing kids do or should I be concerned?
He's my first baby.. so I don't know whether to be concerned or not..He'll stick anything down his throat, gag himself and kind of smile after he coughs. It's really bothering me. It'll be the mallet to his xylophone or some other toy, or if he has nothing he'll stick his finger in his throat. I can't get him to stop it. I can't stand seeing him with watery eyes, and coughing!! Should I bring this up with his pediatrician this week?

- It's a weird thing kids do sometimes...no worries. And it never hurts to bring anything up at the doc visits...:)
- It is pretty normal. My son is 13 months old and does the exact same thing. He acts as if he is choking and his eyes will water up and when you go running to him he will start laughing. It is a game to him. He is always putting something in his mouth. It is a normal thing for children of this age. Nothing to be worried about. Good luck
- Its normal. Kids that age explore their environment through taste so your child is doing what every one year old does.
- I would speak with the pediatrician about ways to discourage this behavior. If he sticks something too small in his throat, it could be very dangerous. In the meantime, take the object away from him and put it out of his reach and make sure to tell him that it is dangerous. Get a bag or something to store the items until the behavior stops.
- this would frighten the life out of me,i have had 5 kids and none did anything like that, see your health visitor as soon as poss!!
- Isn't that weird!? My son used to do that is his car seat to the point he would puke and he thought it was funny. My younger son has done it once or twice but it drives me nuts.
